Cider has a solid following on the West Coast. A retired Cornell University cider expert, Ian Merwin, once estimated that people in Oregon, Washington and California drink 80 percent of the hard cider consumed in the U.S. During the U.S. Cider Association’s annual convention last February in Portland, speakers said cider makes up 1.7 percent of alcohol sales nationally, but about 4 percent in Portland and Seattle.  Complete Story
